The Cookery

A Historic Durham Venue

Set in the heart of Durham, this historic event venue and commissary kitchen blends industrial character, rich local history, and a lush outdoor garden. Its greatest strength is flexibility, allowing couples to move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces while enjoying a cohesive, thoughtfully designed setting.

Ideal for intimate gatherings or large celebrations, the venue accommodates seated weddings of up to 330 guests and cocktail-style events of up to 500. Timeless textures, abundant natural light, and a neutral backdrop allow each event to feel personal, intentional, and reflective of the couple’s vision.

Originally built in the early 1900s, the building has served many roles throughout Durham’s history, including a grocery store, jazz club, and the original Durham Co-Op. Preserved brickwork, reclaimed architectural details, and an uncovered Pepsi-Cola mural reflect its deep connection to the city’s food and cultural heritage.

The space is beautiful year-round, with spring bringing blooming gardens and vibrant greenery, and fall offering crisp air, warm light, and rich seasonal color.
